It's remarkable how Steven Spielberg finds ways to incorporate extraterrestrials into nearly everything. I wasn’t particularly happy when they appeared in Indiana Jones, and now he's put them into a western film. We watched Cowboys & Aliens last night, and it was a decent movie overall. My worries about aliens appearing in a western weren’t as bad as I anticipated. Harrison Ford is…well, he’s Harrison Ford, which is usually a positive thing. My main issue with the film was that some of the alien elements didn't make sense. You have a species capable of interstellar travel, but it turns out humans can just approach their spacecraft without issue, climb aboard, and use dynamite to destroy their hangar. Really? And when these supposedly sophisticated aliens appear, they act like wild animals on stimulants. While this did lead to some visually impressive scenes of fighting and violence, I felt it ultimately detracted from the movie’s quality.
