“Countess Elizabeth” (Ingrid Pitt), who is elderly and has recently lost her husband, isn't prepared to die just yet, particularly after finding a rather disturbing way to temporarily restore her youth. Naturally, nothing comes without a price, especially for the young women who unknowingly become her sources of sustenance. Initially, her former lover “Dobi” (Nigel Green) assists her in acquiring these victims, but he eventually understands that this situation can’t continue indefinitely, particularly when she begins to focus her interest on the attractive “Toth” (Sandor Elés), which causes considerable jealousy. What would be needed to make this change last, though? Well, predictably - what isn't capable with virgin blood? This is typical Hammer production design and costumes, but it mostly avoids excessive gore, instead relying on the efforts of the makeup artists to persuade viewers that Pitt can age or become younger instantly. There’s a significant amount of talking and some repetitive moments too, but you generally know what to anticipate from these kinds of movies, and while I don't expect it to stay with me for very long, it delivers exactly what it promises.
