The skilled surgeon "Sir John Rowan," portrayed by Peter Cushing, is in a relationship with "Lynn" (Sue Lloyd), who comes across as somewhat self-absorbed and frivolous. After she suffers an accident that leaves her disfigured, he attempts to find a method for restoring her appearance. He finds that taking fluid from the pituitary gland and applying it to the damaged skin results in remarkable healing. They soon understand this isn't a single solution; repeated treatments are necessary—meaning he requires more glands, which necessitates finding people willing to donate them. The story then drifts off course, blending elements of "Frankenstein" with murder and grave robbing, culminating in a final thirty minutes that feel absurd. Cushing seems unengaged in his role, and neither Lloyd’s stiff performance nor an early appearance by Kate O'Mara, who is generally forgettable, contribute much to the escalating chaos. It doesn't seem like a film Cushing would want associated with his legacy.
