The “Van Dort” family possesses the name but lacks funds, while the “Everglot” family represents new money striving for social standing; consequently, an advantageous marriage is arranged between “Victor” and “Victoria”—perhaps Dame Julie Andrews will perform at the ceremony? However, before that possibility arises, the young “Victor,” during a wedding rehearsal in a dark forest, inadvertently finds himself bound to someone quite different, who is equally determined to keep him. Now situated within the realm of the dead alongside a new group of companions, he must discover a way to satisfy his unexpected “bride” while also returning to the world of the living and reuniting with his intended, who believes he has left her behind. What’s the likelihood of that happening, or could it be that he might even develop feelings for this new partner? This exemplifies Tim Burton's finest work, featuring exceptional stop-motion animation that propels a genuinely entertaining narrative about existence (or nonexistence), romance, and the quest for contentment. The distinctive characteristic of exaggerated eyes and slender physiques is reminiscent of Ray Harryhausen’s style, and Danny Elfman’s score adds a touch of playful wickedness—even if much of that darkness stems from the formidable vicar—that enhances the story in an appealing manner. Eighty minutes pass quickly, and although I wasn't entirely satisfied with how it concluded, it remains a stylish production to experience.
