It’s surprising to see Stallone deliver such a strong performance as a down-on-his-luck, unremarkable, and unfit small-town sheriff. He doesn't often get opportunities that demand genuine acting from him, so it comes as a shock when you discover just how talented he is. This film is an example of that. It’s also the sort of movie that sticks with you, becoming something of a classic. It may not have achieved the recognition of films like Chinatown, but it's the type of picture where, after some time has passed, you revisit it and are reminded once again just how good it truly is.
