It’s just what a man has to do! Arizona police officer Walt Coogan travels to New York City to retrieve an extradited prisoner. After the prisoner escapes, he makes it his mission to bring him back no matter what, even though he's outside of his usual area and gets looked down on by the local officers. He operates according to his own methods. Frequently considered a foundational film for the genre, *Coogan’s Bluff* is an important example of gritty police stories. The “fish out of water” scenario has been replicated countless times since, but in 1968 it was still effective and provides a well-constructed blend of urban life and Western themes. Under the skilled direction of Don Siegel, with Clint Eastwood in the starring role, *Coogan’s Bluff* acknowledges the era and the shifts happening in America during the late sixties. There's a striking sequence where Coogan explores a vibrant psychedelic nightclub, encountering pimps, criminals, and hippies along the way. The women are also intrigued by the charming cowboy Coogan, and Lee J. Cobb’s portrayal of stern Det. Lt. McElroy adds to the film’s entertainment value. Regarding Walt's boots though... 7/10
