It's a TV movie, a political thriller drama directed by the filmmaker behind 'Dope'. The story draws from the actual 1991 event concerning President Bush’s appointment of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. After his nomination, Anita Hill, a former employee, publicly accused Thomas of sexual harassment during her time working for him, which triggered an investigation before any final decisions were made about his position. Both sides presented their arguments, but she was essentially facing off against the president's support team. The outcome of the hearing and who emerged victorious are revealed later in the film. The acting is solid, though Kerry Washington truly elevates the movie. Her portrayal brought to mind Julianne Moore’s performance as Sarah Palin in 'Game Change', for which she received an Emmy Award, and I think Kerry Washington could be a contender for that same recognition. Beyond her work, the narrative itself had some shortcomings. It started strongly, maintained momentum through a compelling middle section, but then the final act lost its impact rather quickly. The core of the story revolved around one person’s accusations against another, with consistent denials, and I was anticipating a significant plot development or impactful lines that never materialized, even though the production values were high. The film's neutrality may stem from the actual outcome of the trial; consequently, it attempted to maintain balance throughout its presentation. However, as viewers, we could perceive guilt in the suspect’s expressions, which is how the movie subtly offers its own judgment regardless of what actually happened. It ranks among the better TV movies available, but because of a disappointing ending, some viewers have expressed dissatisfaction. Nevertheless, it's worth watching if you're interested in politics and want to see just how unpleasant—and occasionally absurd—it can be. 7/10
