It's remarkable how Coneheads managed to be one of the few films based on Saturday Night Live that actually works, particularly given how much time had passed since the original Conehead segments were broadcast. This film arrived at a point when SNL hadn’t yet declined into what it is now. The movie features an impressive ensemble cast, even in the minor parts. It assembled many of the leading comedic figures of the early 1990s and presented them within a narrative structure—something that distinguishes it from numerous other SNL films, especially those made more recently. These movies often fail to present a clear storyline or give attention to character development. As a result, there's a feeling of genuine familial connection, and the characters’ struggles carry weight because they are portrayed by talented writers and directors who took the time to flesh them out.
