The 1993 film "Coneheads," directed by Steve Barron, tells the story of Beldar (Dan Aykroyd) and Prymatt (Jane Curtin), a couple from Remulak who are accidentally left on Earth during a scouting mission intended to prepare the planet for conquest. The film utilizes many recognizable faces from that era. I was skeptical about the possibility of expanding a short, funny SNL sketch into a full-length movie, but it turns out to be humorous right from the start. The writers keep things moving by frequently shifting locations and introducing new characters, so the plot never feels stagnant. A noteworthy scene takes place in the Coneheads’ home world, Remulak, toward the end of the film. The female roles are also memorable; Lisa Jane Persky portrays a charmingly attractive neighbor, and Michelle Burke is striking as the Conehead daughter, Connie—a part originally played by Laraine Newman on television, but who was deemed too old for the movie at age 40. The filmmakers present Burke’s looks tastefully, avoiding anything exploitative. While it may not have been embraced by reviewers, "Coneheads" provides entertainment and amusement in a number of ways.
