Initially, positive developments often face resistance. The film draws its narrative from the true experiences of Nigerian forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu and his discovery of CTE in American football players, depicting his struggle to validate his findings against opposition from the NFL. I previously held a detached view regarding the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, but this movie has shifted my perspective; Will Smith’s nomination for best actor was certainly deserved, regardless of the outcome. It's disappointing that the film wasn’t recognized in other categories at the Academy Awards, as it feels like the institution took a position favoring the NFL over factual accuracy and its own creation. The story primarily focuses on one sport; however, CTE could potentially affect athletes in other disciplines as well. Dr. Omalu’s research stemmed directly from examining NFL players, so naturally, the narrative centered around that relationship. This is an excellent film, a pleasant surprise for me. Throughout history, worthwhile ideas have initially been met with disapproval, only to be later embraced on a global scale—consider the acceptance of climate change as an example. I hope people understand this pattern and respond appropriately. There's no need to discontinue playing sports; instead, adjustments should be made to the rules and gameplay. This is among the best films released in 2015, and it’s a must-see biographical film—credit goes to Ridley Scott for bringing this project to fruition. 9/10
