It’s a slow burn at first, but after navigating a lengthy initial setup, the movie turns into a pretty solid adventure. The story follows Ranger Nicolas Cage, playing "Poe," who becomes involved in a fight that results in imprisonment. Released on parole, he finds himself drawn into an elaborate prison escape orchestrated by "Cyrus," portrayed by John Malkovich—a scheme to commandeer their transport plane and pull off a complex getaway before Colm Meaney ("Agent Malloy") and a group of armed soldiers can stop them. Fortunately for Cage and those trying to maintain order, John Cusack as "Agent Larkin" is there to assist the authorities as time runs out and Cage’s situation grows increasingly dangerous. Malkovich delivers a convincing performance as a calculating villain; the film features plenty of action sequences, some humor, explosions, and the final thirty minutes are genuinely entertaining from beginning to end. It doesn't try to be intellectually stimulating, but it remains an enjoyable watch, even incorporating a snowplow into a desert setting! The music is also quite good.
