It's one of those films that delivers straightforward enjoyment. My fondness for Nicolas Cage is certainly a bonus, even though he doesn’t always make smart choices about his projects. I appreciated Nicolas Cage’s acting in this film, but John Malkovich also shines as the primary antagonist and Steve Buscemi is ideal in the role of the eccentric character—though I wish his part had been larger. The other performers are quite good too; it's disappointing to see Colm Meaney playing characters who are foolish or villainous after his work in *Star Trek*. The plot isn’t terrible, though it has the typical Hollywood errors you might expect. The way they bypass security measures on that flight is a little absurd, and I find it hard to believe they could have gotten the plane airborne from that desert location in reality. Nevertheless, the story functions well enough to keep things progressing. There's a good amount of action, which is generally enjoyable. It can be somewhat goofy and unrealistic at times, but as mentioned earlier, it’s mostly entertaining. The finale feels excessively silly, with the plane landing on the Las Vegas Strip. It seemed like someone realized they had some special effects money left over and just wanted to use it up. Overall, this is a pretty fun movie.
