The story begins with "Iris" (Sophie Thatcher) and her boyfriend, "Josh" (Jack Quaid), driving to the secluded home of wealthy man "Sergey" (Rupert Friend), where he’s meeting friends. She feels uncomfortable around his group, believing they look down on her, though he attempts to comfort her. Upon arrival, we encounter "Kat" (Megan Suri) and the seemingly devoted couple "Eli" (Harvey Guillén) and "Patrick" (Lukas Gage). Her suspicions prove correct; the others don’t seem to like her, and that's when something clicked for me. It turns out the married "Sergey" is supposedly seeing "Kat," but he also makes advances toward "Iris"—a decision he later regrets. However, there's a lot of maneuvering happening beneath the surface, and both "Iris" and the audience quickly understand that things aren’t what they appear to be. Thatcher and Quaid have good rapport together, and director Drew Hancock has created an amusing situation that steers clear of typical cabin-in-the-woods horror tropes. It's a darkly comedic drama about being cautious about getting what you want, with some unsettling moments and a touch reminiscent of Dan Stevens’ performance in "Cuckoo." Ultimately, it was Lukas Gage, with his flawless teeth, who really stood out to me, illustrating the idea that genuine connection goes beyond physical appearance and not everyone uses common sense. In a genre often filled with predictable elements, this provides a welcome alternative and is definitely worth seeing.
