Whitley Streiber’s true story (!) forms the basis of this film about a family coming to believe they have encountered extraterrestrial beings. Departing from the typical science fiction fare filled with laser blasts, the movie adopts a more understated, unsettling, and intimate perspective—it's less an alien invasion and more a recounting of personal experiences. This approach creates a pervasive sense of dread without resorting to outright horror, though some scenes are genuinely disturbing. The image of the "blue doctor" attending to his son remains vivid in my mind. While it shows its age and isn’t flawless, the film's restraint regarding special effects encourages viewers to connect with the characters’ feelings.
