I was surprised to discover that this was a movie based on true events—that wasn’t clear until the closing credits. Even before learning that, I found myself enjoying it considerably. It's an unusually bold film; I haven’t encountered something with quite this feel in some time. The subject matter felt familiar, but beyond the central idea, the narrative itself was noticeably distinct. Emma Watson gave a truly remarkable performance, possibly the best I’ve seen from her yet. Daniel Bruhl also did well, as did the rest of the cast. The settings and the atmosphere created to tell the story were all exceptional; it felt incredibly authentic. It portrays the experience of a young German couple in 1970s Chile during a military coup, where supporters of the ousted president—including them—were arrested. They are then separated, with one sent to a clandestine detention center. The other resolves to rescue him, putting her own life at risk by aligning herself with the same organization. The film focuses on how she orchestrates this plan and the difficulties encountered along the way. It's disheartening to read the information presented at the end. I’d been searching for a thriller like this for some time, so I am glad I watched it. The rhythm was steady, but the unfolding of events at opportune moments gave it an exciting quality. It handled things well, balancing entertainment with factual presentation. Coming from the director of 'John Rabe,' another film with similar intensity, most viewers will likely appreciate it. Thriller enthusiasts should definitely see this one. _8/10_
