It’s unsettling to see a place intended for rehabilitation turn into something resembling a tormenting environment, and the film's premise felt surprisingly grounded in reality. I wasn’t prepared for an institution quite like this; my experience with juvenile facilities is different. It almost seemed like something you would find happening in America, specifically concerning young people who are rebellious and struggling with substance abuse. The problem isn't necessarily the existence of the facility itself, but rather the fact that it’s been privatized. I know many have pointed out PJ Boudousque’s resemblance to Ryan Gosling, and I initially wondered if they were connected somehow, but apparently not. Regardless, this film provides a good opportunity for him; while it may not be an extraordinary movie, he gets to play a significant part on screen for the first time. Considering the budget of around half a million dollars, it's a decent production. The storytelling felt somewhat uneven, particularly because the beginning and end were quite strong, but I sensed something was lacking in the middle section. I was hoping for a powerful ending, but what I got was even more intense and violent, bringing to mind ‘Bellflower’. It’s probably worth seeing if you don't expect too much. 6½/10
