"Cohen & Tate" flirts with disaster at times, seeming like its limited scope might trap it in a dead end from which escape would be impossible. The reason this doesn't occur is largely thanks to a story full of surprising events and the filmmakers’ talent, demonstrated through their inventive approach to the characters and how they interact—their relationships are intricate and change over time. The narrative consistently introduces fresh and captivating elements, and the car's interior is utilized so effectively it almost feels like another character in its own right. The film begins with a compelling sequence that promises much, and thankfully delivers on that promise, always offering something worthwhile to discover until the very last moment.
