Going into _Code 8_, the preview had me anticipating something not very good, but the story sounded interesting, and I was curious to see Stephen Amell in a movie from 2019, so I decided to check it out. It wasn't fantastic, truthfully, though it turned out to be better than what I initially thought it would be. Certain parts felt similar to _Darkest Minds_ from the previous year, which isn’t a positive comparison, but on balance, it was actually fairly enjoyable. The film attempts to blend social commentary with an action-crime movie full of explosions and gunfire. It doesn't quite succeed in being amazing at either one, however, it does make the effort, and its shortcomings aren't terrible. _Final rating:★★½ - There were many things that I found appealing, but it didn’t fully come together._
