The initial Code 8 film wasn’t destined for awards consideration, but it did manage to deliver a sense of risk, momentum, and thrill. Unfortunately, the follow-up seems primarily intended to showcase progressive themes instead of functioning as a science fiction movie. The narrative largely revolves around characters from various backgrounds experiencing mistreatment at the hands of authority or being integrated into oppressive structures themselves. The final product feels exactly like what it is: an ideological declaration presented from one perspective, rather than the engaging science fiction experience that this reviewer had hoped for. It’s slow-moving, lacks excitement, and doesn't lead to any compelling developments; but then again, how could it? Ultimately, I am growing weary of straightforward entertainment being repurposed to promote a particular agenda. Social commentary and activism have their place, and the more forcefully this kind of message is pushed, the greater the likelihood that people will resist it, at least in my experience.
