I’ve never felt compelled to witness a cockfight until now, especially after watching these chickens perish for what amounts to a terrible film. It’s disheartening that the animals had to die for something this awful. The cinematography did capture some appealing, remote landscapes, and there's a certain quality to it. I can't help but wonder if audiences were easily impressed back then. What is it about this particular individual that people find so endearing? "Look! It’s the chicken man! He’s a silent, alcoholic gambler who pawns everything he owns just to continue killing birds. Isn’t that delightful?" Essentially, the movie consists of unconnected scenes revolving around chickens. I appreciate how the main character navigates some circumstances, but it all feels incredibly uncomfortable and clumsy. There's a moment where a very large teenage farmhand bites my calf, and I don't retaliate—which seems odd. Later, he attacks me with an axe, breaks my car window, and I simply submerge his head in water? What about the broken window? Apparently, because he’s so obsessed with chickens, he doesn't react appropriately to people or situations.
