Tim Curry and Eileen Brennan both give wonderful performances in this adaptation of "Clue." Curry portrays Wadsworth, the butler tasked with greeting a group of guests at his employer's grand estate for an unusual dinner. It’s soon revealed that these seemingly respectable individuals are all harboring secrets and have been subjected to blackmail! They don’t realize their tormentor is among them—but won’t be for much longer—and what follows is a well-crafted murder mystery, full of humor, that unfolds over ninety minutes, involving rope and lead piping. The script contains numerous witty lines, some more obvious than others, and as the investigation progresses, the characters—particularly Brennan's "Mrs. Peacock" and Christopher Lloyd’s oddball, somewhat shady “Prof Plum”—begin to display their own brand of chaotic, comedic mischief. By the conclusion, I was uncertain whether anyone had died, if deaths were even necessary, or if perhaps everyone should have met their end. The pace is brisk, mirroring its stage presentation, and as far as adaptations from theater go—this one ranks among the finest. It’s visually appealing and a genuine pleasure to watch while enjoying a glass of Malbec, especially with Tim Curry showcasing his considerable talent.
