It’s shocking that this movie isn't more widely recognized; it's an excellent film centered on drug dealers, but unlike most movies of its kind, it avoids relying heavily on rap music, instead featuring a moving classical score by Blanchard, though there is still some fantastic 90s hip hop present. The sets are visually striking and evoke real feeling. While Spike Lee isn’t involved in the directing, as Scorsese produced it, the film possesses a more polished and somber tone than his earlier, sometimes overly quirky films. It captures that authentic 90s Brooklyn hip hop street vibe, but this movie resonates on a much deeper emotional level. I'd suggest avoiding the promotional trailer altogether; it might explain why the film didn’t find wider acceptance, as it will likely appeal more to those who appreciate lesser-known cinema.
