It’s an action movie with humor and a bit of over-the-top flair. What I appreciate most about this kind of movie is how uncomplicated they are—easy to watch without requiring intense concentration. This particular film fits that bill, and it's also admirable for being upfront about what it is. It doesn’t try to trick you into thinking it’s something more than it is; it gives you exactly what it advertises. The writing isn't brilliant, and the plot has so many unbelievable elements that it’s hard to take seriously. Still, it works well enough for the movie’s goals, even managing to be funny at times. It’s not a great film overall, but it does have some talented actors. Sylvester Stallone performs adequately, though he's never been particularly convincing as a character—and this doesn't change here. He’s still capable of handling the part and carrying the story. John Lithgow also delivers a solid performance, while the rest of the cast is pretty standard. The antagonists are surprisingly enjoyable, actually. From a technical standpoint, the movie makes good use of its budget to create impressive action sequences, showcasing some very demanding stunts and excellent special effects in both visuals and sound. Everything feels heightened and theatrical because of this exaggeration, and the dialogue consists entirely of familiar phrases, but that contributes to the fun and adds a few clever moments. There’s certainly no shortage of explosions either.
