Following a disastrous rescue attempt that results in a young woman’s death, her boyfriend, Tucker, played by Michael Rooker, holds Walker, portrayed by Sylvester Stallone, responsible for the loss. A year later, they are forced to work together again when survivors need to be found after a plane crashes at high altitude. Unbeknownst to them, the flight carried Qualen, acted by John Lithgow, and his crew who have just pulled off an audacious robbery in mid-air and are now searching for their $30 million somewhere in the snowy landscape. The criminals capture those attempting to help them and use tracking devices to locate their missing luggage; predictably, things don't proceed without complications. While the setting—the cold, visually appealing winter scenery—is well done, the performances are disappointing. Lithgow is simply not good, and Stallone seems disinterested as he portrays a man struggling with his former girlfriend Jessie, played by Janine Turner, a friend, and his own sense of morality. Rex Linn’s character, Travers, a deceptive FBI agent, doesn't fare much better, and after roughly thirty minutes, it becomes obvious what will happen next – the focus shifts to explosions, helicopters, and snowslides. It was pleasant to see Ralph Waite on screen again, but Craig Fairbrass? Not so much. Ultimately, this is just a visually appealing mess set against a mountain backdrop.
