This is an excellent action film starring Sylvester Stallone and his associates. Gabe Walker (played by Sylvester Stallone) is skilled at climbing, but following a devastating event that results in the death of a young woman, he steps away from mountaineering to recover emotionally. Following this period of reflection, he returns with the hope of reconnecting with Jessie (Janine Turner). While working at a rescue center, he’s asked to assist a group who are stuck high up in the mountains, and he agrees to one final mission, not realizing that these stranded individuals are actually armed thieves seeking assistance for a different purpose. Directed by Renny Harlin, this movie demonstrates a time when Stallone's popularity was as impressive as his physique. It’s an enjoyable, straightforward action film that satisfies those who appreciate the genre. What truly distinguishes Cliffhanger from other films is its effective use of suspenseful circumstances. The movie begins with a genuinely stunning sequence and then maintains a feeling of constant tension, keeping viewers on edge throughout. The antagonists are wonderfully exaggerated, particularly John Lithgow as Eric Qualen, whose performance is powerfully unpleasant, while Sly receives strong support from the dependable Michael Rooker. The cinematography by Alex Thomson beautifully captures the Cortina d'Ampezzo region in Italy. The musical score, composed by Trevor Jones, incorporates orchestral elements reminiscent of his work on *The Last of the Mohicans*, alongside what sounds like the main theme from Alan Silvestri’s *Predator*. With intense action sequences, nerve-wracking moments, and a script crafted with playful awareness, Cliffhanger truly delivers. 7.5/10
