I found myself looking for the recognizable actors appearing throughout this film, which felt silly given how childish and honestly not very amusing it is. The story centers on "Dante" (Brian O’Halloran) and "Elias" (Trevor Fehrman), who own a store in a small town. They fill their days repeating lines from movies they like, until “Elias” suffers a heart attack. After he's taken to the hospital, his friends decide to create a film documenting life inside their convenience store. The events that follow might possibly show how an unexpected health crisis can sharpen focus and inspire action, but I struggled with what felt either overly obvious or strangely obscure references. It’s possible this will be better received in America, but over here it seemed like a depressing portrayal of country living where the main interests are drugs and pointless jokes. Successfully blending humor and sadness is a real challenge. Dark comedy, to me, seems particularly difficult to write and perform effectively – and I don't think anyone involved managed to do so with any particular skill. It’s possible my timing was off, but I didn’t notice anyone else in the audience laughing either. This one just didn't work for me.
