The film follows a young man from Britain (played by Abhin Galeya) who slowly becomes absorbed into a Muslim group seeking retribution following the "War on Terror, and he’s tracked by a government operative—Sean Bean—who receives an easy endorsement from his superior, Charlotte Rampling. The narrative unfolds through interwoven timelines that reveal the experiences leading both characters to their present situations; although it relies on some broad stereotypical portrayals to move the plot forward, the performances—particularly Galeya's—offer a compelling look at how extreme actions can stem from anxiety, lack of understanding, and widespread apathy. Unfortunately, the conversations are ordinary, and the filmmaking falters frequently as it jumps between scenes while attempting to generate engagement with two rather unlikable—though attractive—men consumed by their own viewpoints. Rampling and James Fox have limited screen time, which is disappointing since they might have contributed more to illustrating the damaging consequences of the story's themes. It’s acceptable to view, but it doesn’t offer anything particularly new in terms of its premise or how it’s presented.
