It brought back a memory of a time when, despite being committed elsewhere, I felt drawn to another person—a very human impulse. While not my top choice from Rohmer’s impressive filmography ('My Night at Maud's' would take that spot), this one is certainly among the best, and it comes highly recommended for those who value quality foreign films, especially those made by key figures of the French New Wave. Furthermore, that well-known scene—the older man gazing up a ladder and seeing a young woman’s bare knee, experiencing a powerful longing—is, in my view, the most beautiful portrayal of that emotion ever captured on film. It's an exceptional, deeply felt, and ultimately very satisfying piece of work.
