The film functions well as a documentary, and the narrative is straightforward, but it seemed overly stylized to resemble a spy thriller. Even considering its basis in actual espionage, there was an unnecessary reliance on fictional tropes. Ultimately, I believe the widespread praise and significance of this work stem primarily from Snowden’s revelations concerning the US' NSA, rather than the documentary’s merits as a piece of filmmaking.
