GrodanHej on Citizen Vigilante

4/10 · Jul 18, 2026

This film occasionally suggests a potentially worthwhile vigilante narrative exploring societal issues related to crime and immigration within Europe. However, the movie gets bogged down in extraneous elements. It's unclear that Uwe Boll had a specific point or belief system he was trying to convey; it feels more like an attempt to capitalize on existing European discontent and resentment, which aren’t entirely unfounded. The concept of an ordinary person deciding to take justice into their own hands to protect their nation—though the film doesn't even specify which country this is—doesn't quite succeed when the central figure turns out to be an American real estate magnate who, in a strange twist, appears to be residing there without proper authorization. Vigilante stories are typically most effective when the protagonist has a direct, personal motivation for their actions, similar to what Charles Bronson portrayed in the Death Wish series. In this case, the lead character seems motivated by something akin to a desire to be a hero, which makes it difficult to connect with him or feel invested in his journey. I didn’t have high hopes going into this movie, but I was still let down by how it squandered what could have been a genuinely compelling starting point. Your enjoyment of the film will likely hinge on your political perspective; some viewers might interpret it as prejudiced against foreigners and Muslims, celebrating violence and self-appointed justice, while others may appreciate its willingness to speak frankly. Regardless, it suffers from significant shortcomings in both its plot and how it was put together.
