Dean on Citizen Vigilante

10/10 · Jul 6, 2026

It takes real guts to make a film like this, and I have to commend Uwe Boll for that. Those on the left are actively against people seeing it because it holds up a mirror to difficult truths and shows what happens as a result of policies they champion. The extreme reactions from critics regarding *Citizen Vigilante* really underscore just how much of a masterpiece this film is in its portrayal of reality. Progressive reviewers dislike the movie because it demolishes their carefully constructed, politically correct worldview and makes them face uncomfortable facts that they’d rather avoid. Rather than giving audiences standard propaganda, Uwe Boll presents an honest and unfiltered depiction of the decline of lawfulness, societal structure, and shared values in Europe. Armie Hammer gives a very committed performance as a straightforward, former military man who reaches his limit due to a flawed system that protects criminals. Critics on the left dismiss this sense of realism as some kind of manipulative tactic or an expression of hate, simply because they’re afraid of a film that doesn't use sarcasm and instead connects with traditional, conservative perspectives. It isn’t dependent on big-budget Hollywood production values or approval from industry insiders; its stark tone reflects news stories that major studios are too scared to address. The intense backlash against the movie is ultimately the best evidence of how well it did—it’s a genuine, impactful work of counterculture art that speaks plainly and leaves those in power deeply unsettled. For an independent filmmaker like Uwe Boll, receiving this kind of strong opposition from established figures is typically something to be proud of. It demonstrates that the film didn't pull any punches and effectively shattered their comfortable bubble, showing it really resonated with people by challenging their beliefs.
