It’s funny how cinematography typically brings to mind digital techniques these days. However, back in the fifties, sixties, and beyond, they utilized something called film—the medium used in cameras prior to the advent of digital memory storage. Projectionists even had to manually crank projectors initially; otherwise, the film risked catching fire. The story centers on a friendship between a projectionist and a young film enthusiast who also serves as an altar boy, likely around fourth grade. I found this movie to be wonderful! It’s actually the first foreign film I've ever watched, and I'm very happy that my introduction to international cinema was such a positive experience. The reason for this? Because it is truly exceptional! The music is fantastic, whoever composed it did an amazing job. Jacquees Perrin reminds me of Toto, but as an adult. My only real criticism concerns Elena’s character; her development felt lacking. She functions as a romantic interest until Salvatore returns to town after his time in the military, and then she simply disappears from the narrative. This movie is a classic—it embodies what a classic truly is. Anyone who enjoys movies or is considering seeing one should definitely watch this film. It’s essential viewing for all ages and generations of moviegoers.
