This version of "Cinderella" manages to feel both elegant and visually appealing while sticking closely to the familiar narrative about a girl who starts out as a servant in her own household. When the Prince holds a ball at the palace, Cinderella's unpleasant stepmother and her daughters do everything they can to attend, leaving our protagonist behind until she meets an elderly woman. Suddenly, after a vibrant display of magical transformations, she’s wearing beautiful clothes and traveling toward the palace in a spectacular carriage. The remainder unfolds as expected within a traditional fairy tale framework. The animation is exceptionally detailed, and the musical score including "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" provides some enjoyable moments. I felt there were simply too many animals that could talk—especially the mice. Their high-pitched voices, physical comedy (particularly from “Gus”), and the accompanying music became tiresome; also, Cinderella's personality is overly sweet to the point of being cloying. Nevertheless, the story is presented in a captivating way with some well-developed people (the King stands out) and truly impressive visuals.
