Chupacabra Terror can be characterized as a film, and while there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, it doesn’t have many qualities to recommend it either. John Rhys-Davies brings some enjoyment to the proceedings, and I found myself appreciating the chupacabra costume. The performances are generally acceptable, which is a positive considering the movie isn't striving for campiness. The special effects involving blood and gore are in line with what you’d anticipate from a low-budget film made around 2005, but they don’t detract from the viewing experience. I didn’t find the doctor—played by Giancarlo Esposito—to be particularly well-developed, and there were some oddities concerning his behavior. There's also something unsettling about Chelan Simmons’ portrayal of Jenny; I can’t determine whether it stems from the acting itself, the writing, or a combination of both. Certain aspects of how the chupacabra is presented felt strange as well. The inclusion of some characters who are deliberately portrayed as foolish serves as simple plot devices, and their presence seems unnecessary. Ultimately, it's an average made-for-TV movie that will provide adequate entertainment, but there’s no reason to expect anything extraordinary.
