It's an enjoyable film that I’d gladly watch again and feel comfortable suggesting to others. I have a fondness for the found footage approach to filmmaking, so those who dislike that style might not appreciate this one. Dane DeHaan carries much of the movie’s weight, with Michael B. Jordan close behind, along with Alex Russell. Essentially, it's these three individuals filming each other as they develop and explore their supernatural abilities. There are minor characters present, but their roles seem primarily to advance the plot or offer another camera viewpoint. The found footage format is notoriously difficult to execute well, which accounts for common criticisms of it. The film has a very authentic feel with some unsettling elements. I felt that shifts in tone were palpable throughout the movie. It also raises interesting questions about what would really happen if people suddenly acquired superpowers. While many might aspire to be like Captain America, realistically, individuals often resort to whatever they can do without consequence. Therefore, establishing a system of accountability with others possessing similar abilities seems logical; however, enforcing such a system easily blurs the line between hero and villain. Interestingly, this movie shares some similarities with "Hancock," though it’s probably not as strong, mostly just different in its approach. If you're drawn to dark and unconventional stories about superpowers or appreciate found footage films, I suggest checking this one out.
