It's more clever than it initially appears. At first glance, this movie from Preston Sturges seems like a typical lighthearted and pleasant film. However, if you look beyond the surface, there’s an enjoyable mix of comedy, romance, satire, drama, and subtle commentary on the desire for money and everything that comes with it. I don't believe it’s unreasonable to say that the movie’s central plot, which is fairly unserious, might not appeal to everyone; but I found it completely satisfying as an entertaining experience with surprising depth. The film moves at a speed similar to classic screwball comedies, though it does slow down for moments of thoughtful consideration. Ultimately, there's plenty of laughter throughout, delivered by a lively cast and directed by someone truly exceptional. It’s a wonderful success that playfully pokes fun and offers a knowing glance. 9/10
