I thought it was going to be terrible; I wanted to find something else to watch. It’s always a bad bet with King adaptations, and I felt like skipping it. Then someone pointed out it was directed by John Carpenter. That's when we decided to rent *Christine*. That’s really how the discussion unfolded when I was in high school, and I’m happy I ended up giving it a try. It turned out to be among the stronger film versions of a King story, and it felt like quintessential Stephen King. Carpenter did an excellent job trimming away unnecessary parts and creating a movie from the book that still captured its essence. I wasn't expecting that, but he’s simply very skilled at making adaptations work.
