The movie presents a global warming storyline on a smaller scale. It’s an independent production about an Arctic man sent by his community to New York City, tasked with finding a lasting solution to problems they're experiencing because of the impact southern people are having on nature. I heard it was based on true events, but without a source, I can’t verify how much of that is accurate. Considering recent discussions about climate change in Paris, I thought watching this film would be encouraging regarding the issue. It seemed like a worthwhile concept for a movie and deals with a serious subject, even though my experience wasn't quite what I anticipated; I did find some enjoyment in it. The film is short, not lasting more than 80 minutes. Because of its low profile nature, there weren’t any major actors or a large budget involved—it’s simply an acceptable movie. Certain sections felt slow and drawn out, which would have made it a much better short film. There's also something about the narration that feels like a blend of documentary and fictional storytelling. > "Life is so full of difficulties. > But in my homeland, our sense of family bond us together. > Like a warm coat against the cold wind." My overall impression is that it wasn’t bad, but neither was it exceptional. The plot felt predictable, especially the ending which unfolded exactly as I thought it would—that's disappointing. However, there were a few scenes throughout the film that stood out. It seems geared towards children learning about global warming; however, for adults with more developed perspectives, it doesn’t quite manage to persuade due to a lack of deeper investigation into the topic. It brought up an important subject, but didn't attempt to explain or discuss it further. I think it missed a valuable chance to spark conversation and spread awareness, which is what a film dealing with this kind of theme should do. Following this viewing, I watched some other movies, but this will be the last review I post on this blog for the year (2015). As someone who loves films, I’ve had another good year filled with excellent and not-so-excellent movies. Wishing all the WCA readers a happy new year 2016—I hope for continued success and to keep the WCA going strong. 6.5/10
