While I typically dislike remakes, this reimagining of the 1988 Child’s Play turned out surprisingly well. It avoids the pitfall of being a direct copy like The Hustle was with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels—which simply switched the genders of the leads—instead offering a contemporary perspective that largely succeeds. The blend of dark comedy and horror elements felt effective, and director Lars Klevberg managed to steer clear of predictable jump scares. A real highlight was Mark Hamill’s vocal performance as Chucky, even though Brad Dourif remains the definitive voice for the character.
