The television show "Good Guys" completely captivates young Andy (Alex Vincent). There’s a ton of merchandise related to the program, but his mother, Karen (Catherine Hicks), struggles financially, so getting the new doll for his birthday isn't possible. Fortunately, her friend Maggie (Dinah Manoff) locates a street vendor selling one for just $30 and brings it home, much to Andy’s excitement. However, this rather unattractive plastic toy is inhabited by the demonic spirit of Charles Lee Ray—a violent strangler who was killed in an explosion at a toy store while being chased by detective Norris (Chris Sarandon). After Maggie suffers an unfortunate incident, the boy realizes what's happening and attempts to warn the adults about his new toy’s evil nature, but they dismiss him. Then, his mom notices that Chucky operates surprisingly well—without batteries—and she and the police officer find themselves pursuing him. Despite his small size, this doll is remarkably skilled with a knife as he carries out revenge on those who wronged him, intending to draw Andy into his scheme to prevent himself from becoming mortal again. It’s reasonably enjoyable, though not particularly frightening. I personally found young Vincent irritating after only a few scenes, and the plot lacks real depth. The cinematography attempts to create an atmosphere of dread, but the synthesized soundtrack from the late 1980s constantly made me think of "Crockett" or "Tubbs." It’s brief, and once the action starts, it's frequent—but I thought it was more humorous than anything else, and the conclusion felt quite silly. Nevertheless, I can't say that I disliked it; it’s a pleasant film to watch.
