It’s hard not to make jokes about this movie, but I'll just say it's a really enjoyable family adventure. It appears to borrow elements from several well-known films like "The Great Escape," "Star Trek," and "Love Story," alongside a musical score that seems to pull pieces from the works of Korngold, Williams, and Bernstein – all contributing to this exceptional stop-motion animation that would have impressed Ray Harryhausen. A group of chickens are being harshly used for their eggs by the villainous “Mrs. Tweedy,” until "Rocky" (played convincingly by Mel Gibson) shows up and starts encouraging them to escape. Meanwhile, their owner (Miranda Richardson) is scheming to expand her operation – with more than just egg production in mind this time around. It's a delightful film, featuring strong voice acting from Jane Horrocks, Julia Sawalha, and Benjamin Whitrow as the rather self-important chicken RAF observer "Fowler." Nick Park, Peter Lord, and the incredibly creative Aardman team have taken what they learned with “Wallace and Gromit” to develop some lovely characters and clever dialogue suitable for both children and adults. It’s definitely a film you can let your kids watch without worry.
