Chhalaang feels strangely flawed, though I’m struggling to pinpoint exactly what’s wrong with it. It’s also difficult to get behind the messages the sports drama tries to convey, like that scene where a coach lets a student win by cheating and nobody questions it. That's precisely the issue I had with Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore from last year – it’s similar, and both films even share the same font in their promotional materials. The movie intends to explore themes of perseverance, romance, and resolve, but the protagonist’s irritating personality stops me from connecting with him or the story itself. It's frustrating when the central figure (Rajkummar), a coach who isn’t putting in any effort at a small school, is suddenly pushed to improve by a rival assigned by the head of the institution. Still, he doesn’t evolve, and I didn’t find anything inspiring about his journey. The acting is good, but the lead character's uninteresting habits kept me from appreciating what could have been a solid film. **Grade D-**.
