It’s hard to fathom why someone would consolidate sensitive data onto something as vulnerable as a ring, especially when there are two of them containing information about individuals in witness protection. When these rings land in the possession of people who can’t be trusted, and fatalities begin to occur, "Natalie," portrayed by Cameron Diaz, "Alex" (Lucy Liu), and "Dylan" (Drew Barrymore) must step up to resolve the situation. Bill Murray wasn't involved this time around, but thankfully Bernie Mac is present as “Jimmy Bosley,” ensuring they stay on track and focus their efforts on identifying a key suspect. Demi Moore takes on the role of “Madison," a former angel who isn’t feeling particularly sympathetic. The movie follows a familiar action formula that closely resembles its predecessor from three years prior. While there's a pleasing rapport among the female leads, the slow-motion sequences, explosions and unremarkable conversations don't enhance the experience as it progresses in a foreseeable manner. There are some recognizable faces to add some sparkle, alongside a touch of menace from Robert Patrick and, for my taste, Crispin Glover playing "The Thin Man"—or perhaps “Thin Men.” I do wish Kate Duncan’s "Sabrina" were back, along with the more investigative elements that characterized earlier installments. This feels excessively generic in its attempts to be tough and assertive, offering nothing truly innovative. It's an adequate way to spend some time, but it's unlikely to leave a lasting impression.
