What a fantastic romantic thriller showcasing Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn at their finest. Following the discovery of her husband’s death near the train tracks, "Reggie" learns he wasn't who she believed him to be – Walter Matthau ("Bartholomew") persuades her that he was fleeing from the United States government with a large amount of gold. Then James Coburn, George Kennedy, and Ned Glass appear, attempting to pressure, frighten, and openly threaten her in order to get their hands on the gold. Grant arrives as her protector, intervening against these greedy criminals and setting off a series of events. Stanley Donen skillfully draws superb performances from everyone involved in this captivating, humorous, and sophisticated drama. The script is delicate and layered; it's a thriller where real danger is minimal, yet there are constant surprises and no one can be taken at face value. The characters are interesting, the conclusion is inventive, and it remains enjoyable even after six decades.
