I wasn’t entirely shocked by this film's arrival; I was anticipating it, but didn't think it would be quite so good. It really impressed me, even though you can definitely see the influence of other movies. The concepts certainly draw from films like 'Short Circuit', 'I, Robot', 'RoboCop', 'Real Steel', "Bicentennial Man', and 'Transcendence,' among others. That didn't detract from my enjoyment at all; I’d describe it as taking existing ideas and creating something fresh. The movie wouldn't have worked without Dev Patel’s performance, or it would have been a mess. Hugh Jackman also played a vital part, even though his character wasn't always central to the action. His presence brought some genuinely exciting and thrilling scenes; his role felt familiar from 'Real Steel', but with a different feel. The premise is pretty ridiculous, and honestly, some of the dialogue was just plain dumb. I’m not sure why, perhaps it had something to do with the South African accents. However, the script itself was well-written – it moves quickly and gets straight to the point without unnecessary drawn-out setups. It's one of the better robot movies out there and is likely to stick in people’s memories. If they make another one, I expect it will be even more intense and full of action. It’s worth seeing at least once. 7.5/10
