I wasn’t familiar with the book, but given my fondness for Stephen King, John Cusack, and Samuel L. Jackson, *Cell* appeared to be a potentially engaging late-night thriller. I couldn't have been more wrong! The premise is that cell phones are transforming people into violent killers, and a few survivors attempt to survive while trying to understand what’s happening. Initially, the film shows some potential with scenes of chaotic violence and bloodshed, but it quickly devolves into something resembling a travelogue, where the cast seems either disinterested or simply collecting a paycheck. There are hints of interesting concepts, but the movie fails to live up to its initial promise, culminating in an ending that is both frustrating and nonsensical. A sense of mystery can be effective if the eventual reveal is worthwhile, which isn't what happens here. It’s a complete disappointment, and I think both the performers and viewers deserved something better. 3/10
