It’s baffling to me why this received such negative reviews. Aside from James Corden's performance, it proved to be a genuinely entertaining adaptation of a musical that I’ve always enjoyed. Ian McKellen was outstanding in the role of Gus. Jennifer Hudson’s portrayal of Grizabella brought tears to my eyes. Idris Elba was ideal as Macavity. Judi Dench felt like exactly what was needed for Old Deuteronomy. The acting overall was quite strong, with the sole exception being James Corden, whose actions while eating and singing were unpleasant to watch.
