I’ve never been charmed by Casanova; his movies consistently feel dull, and this one doesn't break that pattern—it’s still misogynistic and off-putting. The only difference is the main character turns him down, which might be why it’s the least awful of all the versions I’ve seen, even though he and everyone else in the film continue to display a toxic, unpleasant macho attitude, making the whole thing feel drawn out and exhausting. It's clear some men struggle with accepting a woman’s refusal. The story is set in the 18th century and follows Casanova, known for his pursuit of pleasure and seduction, as he arrives in London after being sent into exile. In this unfamiliar city, he repeatedly encounters Charpillon, a young courtesan, who captivates him to the point where he forgets about other women. He’s determined to win her over, but she continually finds ways to avoid him. She presents him with a challenge: that he should love her as much as he wants her. As Odie Henderson put it, "Whether you believe Casanova is a hero worthy of idolizing or just another tiresome man from a macho past,"Casanova, Last Love" will make you think he deserved better." I tend to agree with the latter view.
