I’ve watched quite a few animated movies that could be considered for the 2018 Oscars, and I have to say, I'm let down by some of the bigger ones. With the exception of 'Coco', most of these major films haven't been particularly noteworthy. The good thing is, after a while, it looks like 2D animation might actually get some recognition. This movie was alright; the basic story had potential, but I didn’t care for how it played out. I’ve followed the development of the 'Harry Potter' actors, specifically the three leads. Over ten years, they transitioned from children to teenagers. But with animated characters, there isn't that idea of aging—they stay the same. This film offered a fresh angle on things; it explored growing older and how that affects us, acknowledging that we can’t maintain our comfort zone indefinitely because younger people will eventually take over. McQueen is having a good time racing and competing with his friends. Everything shifts when a young newcomer changes everything. The movie focuses on how McQueen and the others try to deal with this new generation and their intensity. I appreciated the motivating storyline, especially for those of us who are middle-aged, but it's still an enjoyable film for everyone, particularly kids. It’s similar to transforming 'Rambo' into 'Creed', and I'm hoping for a fresh start in the next installment. _7/10_
