I actually think this one was better than the first film. This time around, the enthusiastic young "Lightning McQueen" is encouraged by Italian racing star "Francesco" to participate in the very first "World Grand Prix." The event has been organized by former oil magnate "Sir Miles," who requires all competing cars to use environmentally sound, oil-free fuel. At the same time, without “Lightning’s” knowledge, the sophisticated and charming "Finn McMissile" is working to uncover a global spy ring that makes "Spectre" seem inexperienced. Along with his assistant, “Miss Shiftwell,” they discover that their mission involves not only "Lightning" but also poor old "Mater"—who takes great pride in every dent he’s collected on his aging bodywork throughout his friendship with the champion. There's a lot happening, and unlike the initial movie, I felt this was a more interesting story with a broader international scope. The Aston Martin and Citroën, the Ferrari and the tow truck—they all support the themes of teamwork and loyalty as the mystery unfolds, and "Lightning" and “McMissile” must race to protect the old, rusty vehicle from something worse than being crushed by a magnet. I enjoyed this; it moves along quickly with some humor thanks to Sir Michael Caine’s subtle performance and Owen Wilson's energy. It was genuinely fun!
